SOLLANT AIR COMPRESSOR

Elevate Pharma Manufacturing with Reliable Oil Free Air Compressors

In the pharmaceutical industry, air compressors are required to produce a pure, sterile air source to meet various needs in pharmaceutical production. When running, traditional air compressors usually require lubricating oil to reduce wear and friction, thus producing oil mist and other pollutants, which can contaminate the compressed air and affect pharmaceutical quality. Oil-free air compressors use special designs and materials to achieve completely oil-free operation, thereby ensuring the purity of the air and meeting the high requirements for air sources in the pharmaceutical industry.

In pharmaceutical production, a large amount of compressed air is required, such as transporting raw materials, operating and cleaning pharmaceutical equipment, filling and packaging, etc. The oil-free air compressor has high compression efficiency and stable output capacity, which can quickly meet the air source demand in pharmaceutical production. In addition, the oil-free air compressor also has the characteristics of low noise and low vibration, which can reduce the impact of noise pollution and machine vibration in the production process on product quality.

Where Is Compressed Air Used in the Pharmaceutical Industry?

Compressed air is widely used in various applications throughout the pharmaceutical industry due to its reliability, cleanliness, and versatility. Some common uses of compressed air in the pharmaceutical sector include:

  • Instrument Air: Compressed air is used to power analytical instruments, such as gas chromatographs and mass spectrometers, which are critical for quality control and research in pharmaceutical laboratories.
  • Pneumatic Conveying: It is employed for the gentle and efficient transfer of bulk materials, such as powders, granules, and capsules, within the manufacturing process.
  • Aseptic Filling: Compressed air helps maintain a sterile environment during aseptic filling and packaging processes to ensure the safety and quality of pharmaceutical products.
  • Cleaning and Drying: Compressed air is used for cleaning equipment, containers, and work areas. It’s also employed to dry components and equipment after cleaning.
  • Packaging: Compressed air is utilized for sealing, labeling, and packaging pharmaceutical products, including blister packaging and bottle filling.
  • Tablet Coating: In tablet manufacturing, compressed air can be used to control the spray nozzles for coating tablets with a uniform layer of active ingredients or coatings.
  • Compressed Air Controls: Pneumatic control systems are vital for regulating valves, actuators, and various process components in pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment.
  • Lab and Research: Compressed air is essential for providing clean and dry air to laboratory equipment, including autoclaves and incubators, to maintain optimal conditions for research and testing.
  • Emergency Breathing Air: In pharmaceutical facilities where hazardous materials are handled, compressed air can be used to supply emergency breathing air for personnel working in containment areas.
  • Compressed Air for HVAC: Compressed air can be used to control HVAC systems, ensuring the proper circulation of air within cleanrooms and controlled environments.
  • Air Agitation: Compressed air may be used for mixing and agitation in various processes, such as preparing solutions and suspensions.
  • Nitrogen Generation: Some pharmaceutical applications require high-purity nitrogen gas for blanketing, purging, or inerting processes, which can be generated using compressed air as a feedstock.

These applications highlight the importance of compressed air in maintaining product quality, safety, and efficiency in pharmaceutical manufacturing, research, and quality control processes. The pharmaceutical industry relies on the precision and reliability of compressed air for a wide range of critical functions.

The importance of oil-free air compressors to the pharmaceutical industry

Compressed air in pharmaceutical companies is mainly used in filling machines for liquid preparations, granulators, slurrying machines, filling machines, packaging machines, printers for solid preparations, and extraction tanks in the extraction process. In addition, in laboratory testing Trial gas, powder material conveying, drying, blowing and purging, pneumatic instrument components, automatic control gas, etc.

Because the compressed air used for preparations is in direct contact with drugs, the compressed air must be purified; it must be verified to prove that the system meets production requirements; it must also pass GMP certification inspections. The gas used for preparations, such as drying and pressing, must control the content of oil, water, solid particles and biological particles in the compressed air, and it must also be odorless. The gas used for instruments is mainly used for pneumatic instruments and precision (pressure, flow) regulators. Except that biological particles are not controlled and no odor is required, other control items are the same as the gas used for preparations.

The quality standard of instrument gas can be found in GB/T13277 “General Compressed Air Quality Class”. This standard divides the quality grades according to the four control indicators of solid particle size and content, water vapor content and oil content, see Table 1. For the gas quality level requirements of pneumatic instruments, it is recommended that the four indicators are all level 3. The specific indicators are: maximum particle size 5μm, particle content 5mg/m3, maximum water content (pressure dew point) -20℃, maximum oil content 1mg /m3. At present, pneumatic actuators generally require the dust particle size of the air source to be ≤1μm. The general requirements for gas quality indicators for preparations are: the compressed air used in manufacturing and process operations, including sterilization processes, should be: (1) supplied by an oil-free air compressor, oil-free and oil-free, in an uncontrolled environmental area Except emissions. (2) In order to prevent condensed water from appearing in the pipeline, the air should be dehumidified.
